The Journey To Ithaca

This morning I read again this excellent poem. It reminded me again how important it is for me to live in the moment and enjoy the journey as oppose to being worked-up and agitated by the destination.

Saying all that, it doesn’t mean that the destination is not important. A destination is always important especially at the beginning of a journey. It sets and allows for planning and a path to embark on. The destination will also provide us with the milestones and forms of measurement to be used to evaluate the journey we are in. That is as far as destination is concerned.

Once it has done its role, itย is shelved for us to visit once every so often, to remind us of the importance of the journey we are in.

Having it all the time present in our mind can sometimes bring about anxiety to the point that we fail to enjoy the journey and miss out on learning along the way.

In simply form; have destination, plan, shelf and enjoy the trip!

Like Minded Individuals in A Common Space

The whole of yesterday I had the privilege to experience (once again) what it feels like to be in a common space with like minded people. I was part of a training design team creating a brand new training on change and was fortunate to be with 3 talented individuals doing it together.

What I notice is all the hallmark deep learning and experiencing. No.1, time flies, No.2, the energy was high and light, No.3, the mood is one of serious lightness, No.4, the resulting feeling is not of tiredness but of fulfillment, No.5, a lot of work was done, No.6, ideas flow like water unabated.

These are the ingredients or indications of a very productive and creative learning space.

I am now addicted to this kind of space! May our training centre be such a space.

The Now

“Living Your Life Now Makes A Lot More Sense Than Worrying About The Future’ – Castle Season 5 –

Besides books, movies comes a close second in providing great quotations for me. Movies are like book in action. There have all the ingredients; contextually in content with a book. It is only that they are more engaging to the senses due to its overload. Books have the same effect only in a more subtle way.

Books, movie & food – three things I would spend on without even a second thought.

The Pause Button

I love the fact that in any of the players available, be it a DVD player or an MP3 there is a pause button. It allows us to gather our thoughts, reflect, take notes, go and get a snack, handle some stuff, answer a call etc.

Life is also like a player. It has a pause button that we seldom use. We are so busy doing and doing, achieving and achieving, solving and solving, adjusting and adjusting that we forget to push ย our pause button.

However, life also has an automatic pause button. If we fail to use our pause button manually, it will from time to time pause it for you because life cares enough to pause you for a bit to smell the roses, to take stock of our situation or simple to take a break to replenish our energy. It can come in the form of an illness, a crisis, a public holiday or even a death.

The choice is ours. The more we use our pause button, the less the auto fail safe pause ability is activated in life.

I say use our pause button. I am today ๐Ÿ™‚

Funny yet profound.

I love funny yet profound quotations & sayings.

This morning on the way to the centre, my participant who is also a dear friend (ManPazin) made a comment in inspiration from another dear friend (Roy/Ryu). He said “Berlari setempat lebih mulia daripada lari dari masalah” ๐Ÿ™‚ (loosely translated to be: it is better to run on the spot than trying to run away from a problem)

This was in response to Roy’s comment that he can’t jog outside because of the weather therefore interrupting his daily jogging schedule as part of his lose weight problem. I then coached him on this statement which puts Roy in hot soup (putting Roy in a problem to answer my questions). ย It is in this context that ManPazin made that statement. ๐Ÿ™‚

We all laughed at this and everyone had a light moment but with deep & profound learning; best kind of learning for me.

I am blessed having such witty & insightful friends.

I have a dream vs I have a plan

Which statement do you think will enroll more people and why?

I say the first one because people don’t by what you are planning to do or even what you have. People are enrolled by your mission, your cause, your purpose.

If this is so, why than marketeers shove onto our faces what they have to sell versus informing us of they purpose so that we can share and advocate their beliefs. You might think I am being utopian especially in this capitalist world.

I can only say that I feel this view point is gathering momentum especially in this age of globalization where there is an equal opportunity for almost anyone to get their hands on what ever information they want and technology has almost obliterate the gap between products.

Consumer are now looking for that extra edge in deciding what to buy. They now look into the philosophy and cause of the makers for products and services; they are looking for a cause and purpose to be part of.

On to this bandwagon I shall jump because it has always been in my behavior to share what I find important. I am just glad that there are more ears to hear.

A question a day

I read somewhere that says the brain is like time; you either use it or lose it. I also read somewhere that the brain stays healthy (by developing new neurons); just like the body, through activity. That is why you notice, people who are bed ridden, their muscles need messaging and requires physio for fear of losing its functionality.

And, the brain is active most when you face a situation that need it to scrutinize.

I therefore am declaring as of today to create a new habit of posing a question a day that my brain can ponder away without needing to even get to an answer ๐Ÿ™‚

So, to in augurate this declaration, my 1st question is this: Does habit creates mindset or does mindset creates habit?

So brain, ponder away!

Wiser vs. Older

Today I grow 1 year older and I wonder have I also grown 1 year wiser?

I feel being wise has nothing to do with the number of years you have lived. It is more of the extensiveness of my learning experience in a year that is more closely related to being wise or not.

I remember what my father said to me years ago when I took over the family business. He said that I now have an opportunity to have 5 years experience in 5 years or 5 years experience in 2 years. The choice is mine.ย

This statement had a profound effect on me and now enforces my belief that maturity and wisdom doesn’t come with age.

Thank you mami for being courageous in bringing me into this world and thank you papi for giving me the wisdom to continue living this life of mine.
